Scone

We'd booked into the the site at Scone, in the grounds of the Palace and right next to Perth Racecourse, for 5 nights. We were having a bit of a break from travelling after a busy time and before we started travelling some possibly difficult roads, in very remote places.

The site is almost on the Racecourse and in fact The Dog Walk provided an interesting view of the day's racing and we were treated to it on our first two days, not to mention being entertained by Ollie Murs and Take That tribute bands on the Saturday night, which was Ladies Day. Some of the people staying on the site were going to the Ladies Day and it was amusing to see these over but in some cases, barely dressed ladies, tottering in their heels across the gravel paths. Even funnier was seeing them return in the evening. I suspect there were some sore heads on the Sunday morning.

The site is also very close to the River Tay, Scotland's longest river and it provided us with some very pleasant evening walks.

This was a random thing we saw on the other side of the river.

There was a bus stop at the top of the lane, so we had a bus trip into Perth. Not the most interesting town but there was a nice little museum. It passed a few hours.

This beautiful Copper Beech avenue was just up the road from the site.

Taking advantage of a little spare time, I had a go at a bit of sketching and watercolour painting. It was only a half-hearted attempt as I had left my paints in Germany and this was a £4.99 set from The Works. At least you can see what it is. I think!

Our last day at the site, we had a walk over to the grounds of the Palace. The nice thing is, we didn't have to pay to go in.

The following day, the 19th May , we were going to be heading into rather more remote areas of Scotland.
