More From Minehead

Just down the road from the site at Minehead is Dunster, an historic village with a large castle, up one heck of a hill. We caught the bus , walked up the hill to the village and then crawled up the hill to the castle!

At the bottom of the castle hill are the 17th Century stables, which I loved, I have a bit of a thing about old stables and farm building and these were a bit special, very grand!

The Castle was good but we were lucky enough to get booked onto a tour of the old kitchens, below stairs, not used since The National Trust took the building over, I enjoyed that part.

One of our trips out was on the bus to Porlock Weir, it was a lovely sunny day, although a little chilly. Walked over the bridge to Turkey Island and crossed some fields with young lamds frolicking. A Blackbird serenaded us from a chimney top.

On the way back Mike thought we would get off the bus on the main road, rather than going back down into the town of Minehead, as our site was ‘just’ a little further along the main road. Just a little walk down the hill...and then up a hill...and down another hill, followed by up another hill and finally down to Alcolmbe, where the Site is situated. A mile and a half!!! As I was walking half of this distance cross legged, due to needing the loo, he was very, very unpopular.
